Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The first ever animation game of the Turtles for the Genesis is one heck of an adventure. The game follows the adventures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they try to stop Shredder from shrinking the whole of New York City using the Hyperstone which he stole. The game features three separate stages for its levels, and each of the Ninja Turtles has his own set of moves and abilities for dealing with their enemies.
What is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist?
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist is an action game which is pretty much like any other TMNT games by Konami. The objective of the game is to beat up bad guys that you come across until you eventually face Shredder face to face. Like any other games of its genre, the overall game is actually repetitive. However, it’s really fun and exciting, and the fact that it features the TMNT is more than enough to get fans excited to play this game. The game was released back in 1992, shortly after the end of the game Turtles in Time.
The game’s story revolves in Shredder stealing the powerful Hyperstone and plotting to shrink the whole New York City. It will then be your mission to prevent him from doing so. While April O’Neil is currently broadcasting news, Shredder decides to shrink the Statue of Liberty and keeps it as one of his collections. He then proceeds to challenge the turtles, and the turtles have to accept the challenge – because no one else will!
Design and Gameplay
For a game developed back in 1992, the game’s graphics are exceptional. You can expect the characters to be well-detailed and come with sleek animations. There are also two different graphical styles to choose from: comic mode which allows you to give each turtle a slight change in skin colour, and anime mode which makes all the turtles bright green in colour. This feature doesn’t change the game’s overall appearance, although it’s still considered a cool feature.
Talking about gameplay, the game features a range of moves for your chosen character. The controls are also spot on, and you can even perform a variety of moves like jump kick and slide tackles. Although the action could become repetitive as time goes by, you’ll hardly be able to notice it due to the fun factor provided by the game. Additionally, each turtle has his own play style. For example, Raphael is the most agile of the four, while Mike is incredibly strong but slow. Donatello on the other hand features a long reach, and Leo is the best-rounded among them. These differences make it easy for you to choose which one you would like depending on your preferences.
• Fun and exciting gameplay
• Exceptional graphics for a game of its time
• Amazing sound effects
• Action could get repetitive over time
Overall, Hyperstone Heist is one of the best Turtle games available. It comes with excellent gameplay, different play styles for each character, spot-on controls, and fun gameplay. Despite being an old game, it’s still fun to play even up to this day.
